Kim Kardashian's sad Christmas

Kim Kardashian once received a puppy as a Christmas gift, but it died of snail poisoning within two weeks.
The 30-year-old reality star has enjoyed another fruitful period in the public eye recently, but has confessed the end of the year often leaves her with mixed emotions. Kim recalls the festive period when she was presented with a puppy for a present only for the canine to perish soon after.
"Valentina was its name, but then she died two weeks later of snail poisoning. You know when snails leave a little trail? [Valentina] got super excited and ate it and died," she told JustJared.com
Despite the tragedy Kim still has fond memories of Christmases past, in stark contrast to her sister Kourtney. The curvy star believes their differing personalities meant they approached the holidays with a slightly different spirit.
"Kourtney would come down [Christmas morning] and wouldn't care, and she didn't really care that it was Christmas, while I was like, 'Oh my God! I got a puppy!' We were so different! Kourtney never just cared about the holiday, but I love Christmas, it's our family's favourite holiday," she added.

Justin Bieber: Selena's an 'Amazing Person'

Here's more news for teen girls to bite on: Justin Bieber is gushing about Selena Gomez's awesomeness.
Although the 16-year-old refuses to discuss his personal relationships, he is open to acknowledge what a great person 18-year-old Gomez is to him. The singer-hearthrob told MTV: "She's really cool. She's an amazing person."
He also noted that he understands people are interested in his relationships but that it's important to keep mum. "I think that people are always gonna be interested in my personal life . . . but I gotta keep some things to myself," he said. "I'm just having fun being a teenager."
Gomez, however, is quicker to deny a more-than-friends relationship between the two of them. "I feel like a big sister now, 'cause I want to protect him," said Gomez. "So I'm always very cautious with him, but he is so talented and he's so sweet, so that just started us wanting to work together. Now he's just become one of my good friends."

Selena Gomez -- Now With Less Promise Ring

Instead of  wanting rumored new boyfriend Justin Bieber, 16, to put a ring on it, Selena Gomez, 18, has taken her ring off ... her promise ring!

Back in 2008, the Disney starlet vowed to abstain from sex until marriage and donned a promise ring to prove it. But last weekend Selena was spotted going into Justin's tour bus without the chastity symbol around her pure little finger.
While there's no word Selena has broken her vow, hopefully she can resist the steamy temptation of those underage Bieber bangs.

First birth of 2011: Oprah's network

Baby cable-TV networks are like baby humans. Born tiny and weak, they may struggle for years to find a place in the world.
Things should be different when the newborn's mom is Oprah Winfrey.
At 12:01 a.m. New Year's Day, while couples are still kissing and confetti is still flying, the Discovery Health Channel will morph into the Oprah Winfrey Network.
The much-anticipated network, three years in the making and a year behind schedule, will arrive bearing - and constantly playing up - the Oprah Winfrey brand, one of the best in TV history.
Everybody knows Oprah, but in the fractionalized TV world of 2011, will that be enough?
Brad Adgate, senior vice president and director of research at Horizon Media, a New York media-services agency, says: "It's very difficult to launch something that isn't going to make viewers scratch their heads and say, 'What's this?'
"But when it's the Oprah Winfrey Network, you have a pretty good idea of what it's going to be like, and who the advertisers and viewers are going to be."
Winfrey, 56, has agreed to give 70 hours of her bright countenance to OWN this year. The network, which promises to go 24/7 without the late-night and weekend infomercials that characterize many second-tier cable channels, boasts that it will have nearly one solid month of its own programming ready to go and another month of acquired documentaries and features. Like many cable outlets, OWN will feature plenty of repeats.
Such popular Discovery Health series as Deliver Me and Mystery Diagnosis will continue on the new channel, which will be found in Discovery Health's spot - usually in the 50s, 60s, or 70s in Comcast lineups, but 182 in much of Philadelphia.
The long run-up to OWN's debut has given chief executive Christina Norman, formerly president of MTV, time to perfect her patter. "We want to continue what Oprah's done for 25 years to such tremendous effect - provide viewers the tools they need to live their best lives," she says.
The demographic OWN is selling is 25- to 54-year-old women, and it's what has gotten the nine corporations identified by the network as advertising partners - Chase, Wal-Mart, Toyota, Procter & Gamble, Kohl's, General Motors, Nissan, Target, and Kellogg - to take out big stakes up front.
But Norman would like to disabuse you of one idea you might have about the viewers: "We've never set out to be a women's network.
"We're working really hard to make sure that men find something for themselves here. Our logo isn't script, and it isn't pink. I think, for instance, men would overwhelmingly take financial advice from Oprah Winfrey, a self-made billionaire."
"There's no doubt she'll get some male viewership," says Noah Everist, broadcast supervisor in the Compass Point Media unit of Minneapolis ad agency Campbell Mithun, "but there are a lot of other better ways - Spike, ESPN - to get that audience."
Besides Winfrey, the network comes presold with lots of names whom she's recruited or who have come seeking a place in her spotlight.
From the get-go, OWN will feature TV personality Cristina Ferrare, sexpert Dr. Laura Berman (not to be confused with radio commentator Dr. Laura Schlessinger), and Winfrey's best friend, Gayle King, who will turn TV cameras on her radio show the way Howard Stern and Don Imus have done. Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, and Suze Orman will all take the stage in a mega-advice show, Ask Oprah's All-Stars.
Oz and Phil will keep their own syndicated programs and do extra duty appearing sporadically on OWN. It will rerun Dr. Phil and the home-design show Trading Spaces, with some updates provided by its original host, Philadelphia native Paige Davis.
Coming soon, even more celebrities with their own daily or weekly shows, giving advice and discussing how they have overcome problems: Queer Eye diva Carson Kressley; Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York; Naomi and Wynonna Judd; Ryan and Tatum O'Neal; and Shania Twain. Winfrey and an entourage descended on Rosie O'Donnell's home in the New York suburbs and came away with a deal for her to start a talk show in the fall.
Big stars are lined up for the summer series Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind, going behind the scenes with James Cameron, Lady Gaga, Annie Leibovitz, will.i.am, and Tyler Perry.
A series of specials will feature more stars, including Jay-Z, Diane Sawyer, Simon Cowell, Sidney Poitier, Maya Angelou, Lorne Michaels, Condoleezza Rice, and Winfrey herself.
Getting Winfrey to appear, lots and lots, on her own network was a key goal of Discovery Communications, which is a 50-50 partner in the venture with Winfrey's company, Harpo Productions Inc.
OWN, unlike many new channels, will be immediately on the grid in about 80 million homes.
Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes will give viewers a weekly look at how Winfrey's super-successful syndicated daytime talk show is made. Winfrey will continue on that show until it ends production in May. After it goes off the air in September, eventually turning up in reruns on OWN, she'll be available for a new talk show.
It won't be similar to her current show, which attracts seven million viewers every weekday. In the first place, it won't be daily. It will probably be called Oprah's Next Chapter.
"It's something new," says Norman, "a way for her to get out of the studio, see the world, and bring interviews with her, whether it's to the Great Wall of China or riding camels in the desert."

Merck Cocaine: Behind Some Of Those Fabulous Rolling Stones Songs

Guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire Keith Richards should have died a long time ago. He was a heroin addict for many years, which earned him the number one spot for ten years on New Musical Express’ list of rock stars most likely to die. He was also an aficionado of Merck cocaine—the pharmaceutical kind, a pure luxury compared to the street powder. In his autobiography Life, Richards confesses that the Rolling Stones’ 1975 tour was “fueled by Merck cocaine. It was when we initiated the building of hideaways behind the speakers on the stage so that we could have lines between songs.”
As Richards lets his supplier describe it (because the rocker’s memory is dim in that passage):
“Pharmaceutical cocaine cannot be compared in any way to cocaine produced in Central or South America. It is pure, does not bring on depression or lethargy. A totally different type of euphoria, one of creativity, exists immediately when it is absorbed by the central nervous system. There are absolutely no withdrawal symptoms.”
Funny, another celebrity rhapsodized very much the same way about pharmaceutical cocaine; no, not Eric Clapton. He worked in another industry, and in much earlier times. In 1884, Sigmund Freud wrote Uber Coca. This is what he said:
“…exhilaration and lasting euphoria, which in no way differs from the normal euphoria of the healthy person…You perceive an increase of self-control and possess more vitality and capacity for work….In other words, you are simply normal, and it is soon hard to believe you are under the influence of any drug….Long intensive physical work is performed without any fatigue…This result is enjoyed without any of the unpleasant after-effects that follow exhilaration brought about by alcohol….Absolutely no craving for the further use of cocaine appears after the first, or even after repeated taking of the drug…”
The name Merck cocaine has stuck, ever since Merck of Germany became a major supplier of the stuff starting in the early 1800s, according to Steven Karch’s A Brief History of Cocaine. (Its American subsidiary split off after World War I). In the U.S., Parke-Davis—now part of Pfizer was the dominant player. Karch says that both Merck and Parke-Davis paid Freud to test cocaine, and endorse their product. He obviously came through.
When not consumed by artists, pharmaceutical cocaine is typically used as a local anesthetic, especially by ear, nose, and throat doctors.
PS: Keith Richards just turned 67 on December 18. New Musical Express was so wrong.

TOP GUN TOM CRUISE WITH HIS TOP GIRL

HE once was a Top Gun but as far as his four-year-old daughter is concerned superstar Tom Cruise is just a top father.

The 48-year-old actor and Suri, one of the world’s most-photographed children, laughed and giggled over tea recently while Katie Holmes looked on and sipped a diet soda.
Holmes, 32, has been criticised in the past for letting Suri wear grown-up-style outfits, including mini high heels.
The three-time Golden Globe winner, who returned from Dubai just over a week ago after finishing action sequel Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, will surely be treasuring such intimate family moments away from his busy filming schedule.
However, while they were a picture of happiness, Holmes appeared somewhat gloomy as she looked on.

Split with Reynolds was Scarlett's idea

SCARLETT Johansson made the decision that she and husband Ryan Reynolds should divorce, according to reports.
They filed for divorce on Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences.
The move came just over a week after the Hollywood couple announced their separation.
Entertainment website TMZ said the pair did not have a prenuptial agreement and while Reynolds earned more money during their two-year marriage, neither party was asking for spousal support.
Johansson, 26, who starred in films "Lost in Translation" and "Iron Man 2" said in media reports that being apart from Canadian Reynolds, 34, due to filming schedules was hard on their relationship.
People magazine cited an unnamed source as saying the couple quietly split six months ago, adding that Johansson initiated the move.
